TL;DR Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face - Mike Tyson
I set my goals, wrote them down, and then quickly forgot about them. I didn’t do anything intentional to move in the desired direction. So, let’s evaluate what went wrong.
Was It a Monitoring Issue?
Partially. I do keep a journal and have a daily monitoring system. But I often skipped it, and I didn’t set up a mechanism to regularly review my goals. Daily monitoring can be a burden, so this year, I plan to switch to a quarterly review.
Were the Goals Wrong?
My goals were more wishful thinking than genuine priorities. I set them, but I wasn’t genuinely interested in achieving them. This year, I plan to set smaller, achievable goals to keep my motivation up. I’ll also create a range of goals over different time horizons and won’t hesitate to drop ones that lose their relevance or appeal.
Am I Fooling Myself?
Maybe. Tune in next year to see if I’ve managed to improve.
